Room 1 the Slug Lovers!

Mrs Davies brought another creepy crawly in for us to see on Friday. It was a Tiger Slug that she found in her garden. We decided that it shouldn't be called a Tiger slug because Tigers have stripes and this slug had spots. So Room 1 decided that it would make much more sense to name it a Leopard Slug. Well imagine our surprise when we did some research about Tiger slugs and learnt that another name for them is in fast a Leopard slug!! We are so clever!

We named our visitor Dot Spot :)

Thank you for bringing Dot Spot to visit Mrs Davies! We loved hearing about the slime and looking at his breathing hole.

Butterfly Art!

Because Room 1 has been so interested in the life cycle of the butterfly, we decided to create some beautiful butterflies of our own!

We used crayon to colour in some of butterfly and then used dye to make our butterfly really colourful!

Aren't they beautiful?!

We finally caught it!

We set up the iPad today to catch our butterfly hatching from it's chrysalis.  We are so excited that we finally got to see the moment that it breaks free!  We learnt that this gorgeous butterfly was a little lady as she had no spots on her wings.  Mrs Davies came to help her outside again and it was so lovely to see another butterfly go off into the world.

Room 1 LOVES butterflies!

Working together!

Today Mrs McGregor gave us some time to use our creative minds and build masterpieces! We had to work in groups and share our tools with one another to create our final products :) we did such a fantastic job working together and Mrs McGregor was very impressed with both our sharing and creative skills!

Sneaky snakes

Sneaky Snakes - S - snake shape

We brainstormed all the words we could think of starting with S and we came up with so many fantastic words!! Mrs McGregor was so impressed when we came up with super words like scientist, special and super!

We used our super colouring in skills to create beautiful sneaky snakes that are now sneaking around our class room!

Honey the Butterfly!

Today something amazing happened!!! One of chrysalis' opened to a butterfly :) This morning when we arrived at school the chrysalis had changed from its beautiful green colour to a clear colour and we could see our little butterfly friend inside. 20 minutes later and our little friend has broken free and was uncurling and airing his wings. Honey let his wings dry until just after morning tea and then Mrs Davis came to help us move him outside :) Mrs Davies should really have the name 'Insect Whisperer' because she knows so much about insects and bugs! She taught us that monarch butterflies have 2 toes on each leg and also that if they have 2 black dots on the bottom of their wings then it is a male butterfly. Honey has those 2 dots so SURPRISE - Honey is a boy :D

Thank you for taking the time to share all of your knowledge with us Mrs Davies!

Fly free little Honey :)

Our class pet

Last week Mrs Davies bought us our very own class pet! A caterpillar that she has been looking after since it was an egg! We were so excited about our new pet that we went to Room 13 and Mrs Davies showed us all the different caterpillars that she has and told us all about the life cycle of a caterpillar/monarch butterfly :)
It was so much fun learning about that happens at each stage of a caterpillars life.

We then went back to our room, gave our new pet a name -Sharky- and did the most amazing writing about what we had just learnt!

We are so excited to watch Sharky grow and turn into a chrysalis!

Go Sharky!!

Fantastic Family Fun Fair Friday

Friday night was our family fun night fair on the school field. It was so lovely to see so many Pinehill families coming out to support our school and be a part of our gorgeous community!

There were so many things to see and do including a massive blow up slide, a bouncy castle, dunking station, an international food court, face painting, trampoline, police radar racing, coffee for the parents, performance by lovely Pinehill students, cake and cookie stand and a popcorn, lollie and candy floss stand!  Some lucky people even got to watch Mrs McGregor try and make candy floss! Now that was en experience :)

Thank you so much to all the parents that helped and made food or brought their kids along. Our school wouldn't be the same without our amazing families.

A fantastic night had by all!!
